FAQ

Frequently asked questions about adapted bathrooms and wet rooms

We specialise in bespoke, boutique adaptations that focus on creating luxurious, non-clinical, high-end bathrooms whilst prioritising functionality and accessibility.

We understand the importance of your home to you, but also the challenges and lack of independence it can pose when it’s not tailored to your individual needs.

Whether you are future proofing your home, need extra support in the bathroom or have a disability we can help.

It is our vision to enable as many people, within in Essex and the surrounding area, to remain in their own homes for as long as possible, enjoying comfort, independence, and dignity.

Do you have a showroom?

Yes. We have a showroom in Lifestyle & Mobility situated in Eastgate Shopping Centre Basildon. You can view products such as showers & shower screens, shower seats & grab rails, as well as a huge array of wallboard and flooring choices.

Will a bathroom adaptation de-value my house?

An elegant, well designed wet room that doesn't look clinical will rarely de-value a house. In fact, less people now use baths, instead opting for a stylish wet room.

Is vinyl or ceramic tile best for the floor?

As long as its non slip either will be suitable. Tiles will work out more expensive as we will have to 'tank' the floor first - meaning we need to put a waterproof layer underneath the tiles. The vinyl flooring will form its own 'tanking'.

How do I know which shower is best for me?

Our surveyor will check your existing heating system and water pressure and advise you on the correct and most efficient shower for you. We install Mira electric or mixer showers, and as they are both thermostatically controlled you won't experience a sudden burst of hot or cold water. They also shut down in an emergency in order to keep you safe.

Will my bathroom look clinical?

No! Wet rooms were originally created for high end hotels not hospitals. Our bathroom adaptations are designed by professionals and we always make them look as elegant as possible!

How long will it take?

This all depends on the size of the room and the work being carried out but an average time for a bathroom adaptation is approximately 10 days.

Should I choose wallboard, ceramic tiles or paint for the walls?

We will always advise you on the best wall covering for your bathroom but the walls in the areas that get constantly wet i.e. the shower area, will need protecting with either wallboard or tiles. The rest of the bathroom can be painted or you could choose wallboard or tiles here too! With so many choices available we can create a truly unique and bespoke bathroom for you.

Will the toilet stay in place during the works?

We get asked this question a lot! If you do not have access to another WC we will always ensure you are left with a working toilet at the end of each day. And please don't worry, if you need to use the loo during the day our fitters are more than happy to make sure the toilet is connected and give you privacy.

If the shower floor is level - why doesn't the water run down the stairs?

The shower area has a small 'fall' built into it which allows the water to run into the drain. This 'fall' is hardly noticeable so the floor looks completely level.

What makes an Elegant Duck bathroom safe?

We design our bathroom adaptations in collaboration with Occupational Therapists. This ensures the best use of the space making sure every part of the bathroom is laid out efficiently and with your safety in mind. We also use products that have been specifically designed for use with adaptations - like non slip flooring or raised height toilets. However, this process is still done with elegance in mind!

Do you offer finance options?

Yes, we can offer various finance options. Please contact our friendly staff for further information.
